Chapter 3: Running Away

Ten years of Jack visiting me, things took a turn for the worst. My parents argued every day now. I was now in high school. So because of my belief in the legendary figures, including Jack Frost, I was picked on.

They called me names such as, “Baby” and “Childish Believer.” They told me things like, “Why won’t you grow up and stop believing in Sandy Claus and the Tooth Fairy?” How they find out I believed in them, I never knew, but once it began it never stopped. I was pushed around, down, and even into walls and lockers.

No one in school cared for me, my grades plummeted, I no longer cared for school, and many a day I considered not even going. Every day I walked home depressed and lonely.

I was so frustrated with my life and it seemed Jack wasn’t there enough to help whisk all the pain away. I stayed in my room for most of the day, hardly even coming down for food. This pushed my parents further away, blaming each other for me not wanting to be around them.

One day after coming home from school, I went straight to my room. But not before hearing a tidbit of my parents arguing. “It’s your fault Miyuki doesn’t want anything to do with us,” my father yelled at my mother. “We’ll maybe if you were around more; she would want to be with us more!”  My mother shouted in return.  They went on like that, not even caring or noticing that I came in, as usual.

When I finally made it to the stairs, I heard the breaking of something as if something were thrown. When it reached that point, I ran up the stairs and into my room, slamming the door behind me. I sighed and rolled my eyes as I leaned on my door, before finally throwing myself on my bed.

So with all this going on, I wanted to escape. And when Jack finally came, I took him as my escape, my freedom from the pain of my everyday struggle.

He came in as usual through my window, this time I met him at my window. He perched on my window sill, his staff in grasp. One look in my hazel eyes and he knew something wasn’t right. “Miyuki…? Is something wrong?”

I barely gave him time to ask before I practically exploded, letting out all my frustration and pain, “My parents fight all the time. I get tired of hearing it day after day, night after night. I’m picked on in high school because of believing in you and the other legendries. Nobody cares about me. Jack, please. Take me with you. I’m tired of the drama of life. I just want to be with you. You have always been a source of escape for me, but I need that escape so much more so now than I ever did.” I finally paused, eying Jack for his reaction before continuing, “Plus, I love you, Jack. My feelings for you grew over the years. I need to be with you.”

Jack was awestruck, he was completely speechless. He sat there silently leaning on his staff.

I sighed and walked away towards my bed, “I knew it, the one time I needed you most…” I sat down on my bed in utter desperation.

He thought for a few seconds, hesitant on what he was going to say. Finally, he gets out of the window, glides over to the bed, and sat down beside me. He sighed, “Miyuki… As much as I’d like to take you with me, I don’t stay in one spot for long. I’m always roaming around the world. I’m hardly ever in one spot for too long. I’m a free-spirit, Miyuki.”

I started to cry, “I don’t care, and I’ll go wherever you go if I have to.”

He quietly put his hand on my shoulder, “Miyuki, I’m only thinking of what’s best for you. Besides it would be weird for people all around the world to see a girl flying in the air, as they wouldn’t see me.”

I started crying even more, “I-I just don’t know what to do, Jack. I can’t take this anymore. I don’t care what’s best for me anymore. Nobody would care if I disappeared.”

“Miyuki, I’m sure your parents would care,” Jack tried to calm me down.

I scoffed in reply, “I doubt that. They haven’t paid a lick of attention to me since their arguing got worse.”

Neither one of us spoke for a while. The silence in my room was deadening. It was so quiet that my crying seemed a lot louder than it really was.

Jack looked down to my floor. He carefully thought over his decision before hesitantly agreeing, “Fine you can come away with me. Besides, I’ve secretly loved you for a while too. But I knew that a relationship like that would be dangerous. I wanted you to stay where you belonged, with your family. But I can’t leave you like this.”

I looked up at him, tears still streaming down my face, “What?” I had heard what he said, but I was shocked to hear that he loved me too.

He stood up and stood in front of me, handing his free hand out to me, “I love you, Miyuki. Come with me.”

Instead of taking his hand, I quickly embraced him, throwing my arms around his neck, “I love you too, Jack!”

We slowly separated as I looked into those deep icy eyes of his.  He looked into mine and said, “Come on, then. Let’s go.”

I held on tight to his waist and soon we were out my window and into the night sky. I was happy. I was with the one that I loved and that loved me back and I was escaping all those harsh things of life.

Within a few minutes, we were over his lake. I asked curiously, “Where are you taking me? I thought you said that you didn’t have anywhere to live?”

He looked at me briefly before looking back in front of him, “Well I may not live anywhere, but there is a place I like to go on occasion to relax and such.”

Soon, we were landing beside an old log cabin in the middle of the woods near the lake he called home. He spoke again, explaining to me about it, “I came across this place one day and figured since it was in the middle of nowhere, I could use it for myself when I needed to.”

We entered the little cabin. It was half the size of my house, but still was quite roomy. It had that warm, cozy feel to it.

“Would you be fine here while I was away? Like I said, since no one knows where this place is, no one would ever think to look for you here.” Jack said while holding his staff casually behind his head on his shoulders.

I looked around before finally saying, “It’s perfect.” Thus starting my life living with Jack Frost.
EDIT: Ok I made it longer... even though it didn't need to be longer XD I fleshed out a bit on what was going on with Miyuki in her school and home life, maybe it'll give you a better taste of what was going on in her life ^^

Ok so to make up for the crappy and shorter chapter before this, I decided to post another to make up for it. And Miyuki goes through some serious angst here in this chapter, maybe a bit too much XD But it is her driving force to be with Jack. And Jack may be totally OOC here, but I don't really care. I know he has a sweet loving side that comes out in the end of the movie, so I'm just bringing it out of him early XD

Anyways I hope you enjoy and don't hesitate to comment, I'd love to see what you think and what could use changing :D

Also if you haven't go see the other chapters before this and after this :D
